THE HAC

The HAC is known for its army reserves, but did you know that you can also hire the venue for your events? The venue has both indoor and outdoor spaces available. The indoor space has been converted from the Regiment’s former drill hall and is great for dinners, conferences and receptions for larger groups. With inbuilt AV, the technological options are endless and can create a great hybrid event!

The outdoor space is perfect for summer parties, with five acres of space, it’s one of the biggest outdoor venues in London giving you lots of space to transform and create your event. The spotless, green lawns of the Artillery Garden provide solace from the hustle and bustle of the city combined with the atmospheric appeal of live, large-scale outdoor events, which makes the Artillery Garden a unique venue for outdoor events in London. The garden has hosted lots of sporting and outdoor events previously, so they are experts in hosting a great summer party.

Trafalgar St. James Roof Top

One of the most central venues in London, with great potential for summer events is Trafalgar St James. They have lots of spaces from meeting spaces, to a ground level bar, both are amazing spaces for receptions as well as dinners. But the space we love for summer events is their acclaimed rooftop with some of the best views of London’s iconic skyline.

The venue has a private dining room, ideal for smaller groups and slightly larger receptions where you can enjoy the view and if you time it right, a great sunset. With a retractable roof, the venue can accommodate every type of British summer.

BMA House

For almost 100 years, BMA House has sat in the heart of London, a short walk from Euston station. The Grade II listed building makes today’s special occasions all the more spectacular with over 6 different event spaces. Whether it’s a conference, social event or wedding, the venue has a true history of hospitality and events.

It’s a rarity to find a venue in central London that offers not one, but two outdoors spaces, and BMA House is proud to be able to offer the luxury of choice. Whether you prefer an elegant Courtyard setting or like the idea of a lush botanical Garden, you can pick the backdrop that best suits your brief. By both outdoor spaces being enclosed, it gives your event more privacy as well as the illusion that you aren’t surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the city of London. Creating a more relaxing event, where you can set the atmosphere and enjoy the party.

Not only does the boat live in the Thames, just along from Embankment, it also travels down the river towards Greenwich for events. With two boats and a pier venue, there’s lots of different spaces at Bateaux.

Their meeting spaces are great for larger groups as well as breakout rooms as they can change the room sizes and break them up into smaller rooms with wall dividers. They have several theatres ideal for large conferences as well as graduations.

The main event space for summer is their spectacular conservatory, which is a hidden tropical oasis in the heart of the city. High under the glass rooftop, with plenty of natural daylight, is a magical space overlooking the conservatory and all of its tropical plants. These areas are great for drinks receptions as well as dinners and summer parties.

Tips and tricks for an effortless summer party:

  • Send out your save-the-dates ASAP as summer is the height of the travel season and many of your guests will be going away.
  • Consider whether to provide a dress code (like smart casual, cocktail attire or shorts and flip-flops encouraged).
  • Think about whether you’d like your event to be informal, as parties held in summer are usually more relaxed than events held at other times of the year.
  • Decide whether you’d like to host a fun, themed event (fiesta, luau, beach party, pool party and Wimbledon tennis party are all popular options).
  • Mix up your drink offerings by serving sangria, punch or boozy ice pops, or by filling colourful buckets with ice and assorted bottled drinks, so people can help themselves (and remember to take care of designated drivers and non-drinkers by serving some tasty non-alcoholic juices or mocktails as well).
  • On warm days, opt for a simple fare – refreshing summer cocktails and bite-size appetisers, like smoked salmon crostini and mini sliders, are ideal (don’t forget that lighter, non-creamy food and drinks reduce the risk of spoilage).
  • An umbrella provides shade and helps to define an outdoor dining area.
  • Don’t use tablecloths if you think there’s going to be a breeze.
  • Encourage guests to mingle by setting up drinks and dessert tables in separate areas.
  • Beat the bugs by covering appetisers with pretty glass domes and cake stand covers, and by having mosquito repellent on hand for your guests.

When hiring a summer party venue, make sure to consider:

  • Your budget (know where you can splash out and where you can make savings).
  • The venue’s location (north, south, east or west London) and accessibility (on-site parking, public transport connections).
  • Time of the event (do you need to plan it after the hottest part of the day so the sun won’t be so strong for your guests?).
  • Lighting (decorative paper lanterns, solar-powered lights or strings of fairy lights all work well).
  • Air-conditioning (if you’re planning an indoor event, be sure to consider your guests’ comfort).
  • The sound system (prepare a playlist in advance (check out a summer party mix on YouTube if you’re short on ideas) and make sure the volume’s not too loud on the day).
  • Entertainment options (don’t forget to speak to the venue manager about what you have in mind, whether it’s hiring a band or setting up a photo booth).
  • The best time to set up (check whether it’s possible to set up in the morning or the night before when it’s cooler – the process will be faster and you won’t have to worry about heat exhaustion).
  • Check if there are any cancellation fees.

Summer party mistakes to avoid:

  • Leaving food out in the sun (food safety should be a key consideration when the weather is warm).
  • Not providing enough shade.
  • Serving more alcohol than water (be sure to offer water and other non-alcoholic beverages throughout the event, so guests don’t get dehydrated).
  • Leaving flowers in the sun for too long (if you’re worried about wilting centrepieces, choose hardy summer flowers that will last for the duration of the event)
